_______________________________________________ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OGDEN HOUSE SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB HISTORY
Ogden House Seniors has a history of being a progressive forward looking organization. Before they were incorporated (in 1975) they met in a community hall. As the membership grew they dreamed of their own clubhouse and set to work to achieve it. The million dollar building was opened in 1990. We own the building but lease the land from the city. About 1998 there was closure of several local labs in Calgary leaving the South East sector of Calgary with none. Ogden House took the initiative and worked tirelessly to get a lab reestablished in our area AND they succeeded. Also about 1998 it was realized that our seniors need help with their yard work and a program was developed to do just that (MOW / SNOW) which is now the model for several other organizations around the city (and the city itself). NONE can do it as well as our organization - looking after 100 yards a week in the summer with a staff of 4 and in the winter with junior high students and a staff of one. The present affordable housing project is also an ambitious project considering the seniors and other age groups in our area. It is an initiative by seniors, with seniors, for seniors. In 2005 Ogden House Seniors was among charitable organizations to be recognized by the Better Business Bureau (meeting all criteria favorably) Ogden House Seniors have a remarkable track record and when they set out to do something big - they do it. - Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead United Way
